LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Raeanne Geffert has earned an award from the Patriot League for the third straight week. The freshman was named the Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, and has also received the conference's Rookie of the Week award once.
Geffert tossed two complete games in the three-game series against Lafayette and captured two wins to help the Bison open League play with a series sweep. Through 14 innings of work, the freshman gave up just two earned runs, one in each contest, and a total of six hits. She faced 49 batters, didn't give up a walk and struck out 12. Geffert finished the week with a 1.00 ERA.
For the season, Geffert has nearly twice as many strikeouts than anyone else in the Patriot League. She leads the way with 71, including a league-best 16 strikeouts looking, while Army West Point's Renee Poirier ranks second with 37.
Bucknell has won three Pitcher of the Week awards and one Rookie of the Week honor this season. Senior Lara Bean was the recipient of the other Pitcher of the Week accolade.
The Bison are 18-5 overall and 3-0 in the conference after wins in each of their past four games. They are back at Becker Field for another three-game league series when they host Colgate on Saturday and Sunday.
