LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Tom Gannon posted his first career individual win to help the Bucknell men's swimming and diving team record a 156-123 victory over visiting Lehigh in a Patriot League meet Saturday at Sojka Pavilion. The Bison won eight individual events and one relay, improving to 4-5 overall and 4-3 against conference opponents this season.
Gannon's first-place finish came in the 200 breast, while teammate Chadd Cummings was the runner-up. Gannon's best finish in the event prior to Saturday was third at Colgate last season.
The Bison had three two-event winners, including senior Louis Behnen, who won the 200 free and 500 free. He edged Lehigh's Justin White in an exciting race in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:40.56 while White clocked in at 1:40.66. Behnen led a 1-2-3 finish for the Bison in the 500 free, with Denver Freeman taking second and Sam Rutan third.
Junior Chris Devlin swept the backstroke events. James Elmendorf and Jack Robinson were second and third in the 100 back, while Robinson added a runner-up finish in the 200 back. Devlin has won 13 straight races in the longer of the two events.
Cummings helped Bucknell sweep the breaststroke events with a first-place finish in the 100 breast. He was more than two seconds faster than the runner-up, Lehigh's Tyler Christ.
Freshman Peter Sigward picked up first-place points in both diving events. He had personal-best scores off both boards.
The Bison opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay. The winning team was comprised of Devlin, Cummings, Elmendorf, and Charlie McFarland.
Bucknell returns to Kinney Natatorium for a meet against West Virginia on Friday at 6 p.m.
