LORETTO, Pa. – Playing its second consecutive Northeast Conference opponent, the Bucknell men's soccer team lost 3-0 to a strong Saint Francis (Pa.) squad Wednesday afternoon at Stokes Soccerplex.
It was a scoreless game into the 57th minute until a corner kick from the Red Flash (6-3). Saint Francis had its first two shot attempts blocked, when Dominic Ramirez collected the rebound for the finish.
Just 1:08 later, the Red Flash scored their second goal of the afternoon. Jack Webber knocked in a header to the center of the net off a corner kick from Stefan Sjekloca.
Saint Francis, the fifth ranked team in the Northeast region, scored once more in the 82nd minute. Webber had his header blocked, which was recovered by Tulio Canineu for the score.
The Red Flash, who was picked second in the NEC Preseason Poll and coming off their second straight NEC Tournament title game appearance, outshot the Bison 10-5 in the second half.
Bucknell (2-5-1), who held a 4-2 shot advantage in the first half, had some close calls in the contest, including a header from Nick King in the 15th minute that went off the post.
“Right now we have quite a bit of work to do and have a short period of time to figure it out,” said head coach Brendan Nash. “ We played decent in the first half and did not follow that up in the second half against a good Saint Francis team.”
The Bison are back in action Saturday when they open Patriot League play against Boston University at Emmitt Field. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
