LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men's soccer freshman Emmett Witmer has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, following his terrific performance against Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday.
In just his first collegiate start, the goalkeeper made five saves to keep the sheet clean in the 1-0 victory. Witmer's toughest save of the day came in the 73rd minute, as the keeper made a diving stop to his left to deny a shot and keep the game scoreless.
Bucknell's defense was solid for most of the afternoon, limiting the Knights to six total shots with just one attempt after halftime.
Forward Ben Derleth was an honorable mention, as the junior scored the decisive goal with 13 minutes to play to secure the win.
The Bison improved to 2-4-1 overall following the victory and return to action Wednesday (Sept. 21) with a non-conference matchup at Saint Francis (Pa.). Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
