LEWISBURG, Pa. – Two days after recording the biggest win of the week by a Patriot League team, a 3-2 upset over No. 12 Albany, the Bucknell field hockey team received three of the four weekly awards from the conference. Freshman Brittany Willwerth was named the Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, while junior Emily Finn was tabbed as the Goalkeeper of the Week.
Willwerth scored a pair of unassisted goals, including the overtime game-winner in Bucknell's 3-2 upset win over No. 12 Albany on Sunday afternoon. The three-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week has scored four goals in four games, including two game-winners for the Bison. She is second in the League with 2.0 points per game and tied for second with four goals.
Willwerth is just the second player in league history to win three consecutive Rookie of the Week awards. She is the first to have accomplished the feat in each of the first three weeks of the season.
Finn made seven saves, including four in the second half and one in overtime to help Bucknell upset No. 12 Albany, 3-2 on Sunday. Her save on a penalty corner with no time left on the clock in regulation sent the game into overtime. She now has a .556 career winning percentage, which ranks fifth all-time at Bucknell amongst goalies with at least five starts.
The Bison have another game against a nationally-ranked opponent when they travel to play No. 5 Penn State tonight. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex.
