PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Bucknell men's soccer team wrapped up a four-game road trip Sunday with a 2-1 loss against Wofford at the Duquesne Invitational at Rooney Field. Sebastiaan Blickman found the back of the net in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Bison fall to 1-4-1 on the season.
It was a scoreless tussle between the two schools until the Terriers got on the board in the 29th minute. Andreas Suri knocked in a header off a free kick from Connor Donahue for the 1-0 lead.
Wofford (4-2-0) tacked on another goal in the 35th minute. Following a Bucknell foul in the box, Matthew Aurednik connected on a penalty kick to give the Terriers a 2-0 advantage.
In the second half, Bucknell came out much more aggressive on both sides of the ball, outshooting the Terriers 9-1 and holding a 4-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
The Bison got on the board in the 52nd minute, when Justin Galiani played a ball off a long throw in from Dany Teran, heading the ball to Blickman, who headed the ball into the netting for his first goal of the season.
Blickman took a game-high four shots, and nearly scored again off a header in the 66th minute, but the ball sailed over the crossbar.
Bucknell continued to stay in attack mode until the final seconds, almost finding the back of the net in the final minute off a shot from Tyler Peterson, that was knocked away in time by Kelly Dredon.
Tyler Marchiano finished with two saves in the game, while fellow freshman Emmett Witmer got some time in goal in the second half.
Wofford's Garrett Closs finished with three saves, including a big stop in the sixth minute, making a save on a penalty kick try from Zack Rockmore.
"Our team is frustrated with the results so far," said head coach Brendan Nash. "However, each time we go out it gets a little better. We just have to keep working and our luck will eventually change."
Blickman and Rockmore were each named to the Duquesne Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Bucknell returns to Lewisburg, where they will host Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 17. Game time is set for 12 p.m. and will broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
