UPDATE: Originally Charles Lee '06 was slated to join Mike Muscala as a speaker at the Friends of Bison Basketball Dinner. Unfortunately, Lee's duties with the Hawks will prevent him from appearing on Sept. 9. We hope to have him back for a future edition of the dinner.
LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Former Bucknell basketball star Mike Muscala '13, now a forward/center with the Atlanta Hawks, is slated to appear as keynote speaker at the Second Annual Friends of Bison Basketball Dinner, to be held on Sept. 9 in the Terrace Room on the Bucknell campus.
The event begins with cocktails at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and guest speakers at 7:15 p.m. The cost is $50 per person, or $35 for 2011-16 Bucknell graduates. Fans can also donate $50 to sponsor a student-athlete.
Those interested in attending should RSVP to Todd Newcomb at 570-577-1771 or tnewcomb@bucknell.edu by Sept. 2.
In addition to catching up with Muscala, head coach Nathan Davis will set the stage for the 2016-17 season, and the 2016-17 Bison will be introduced.
The inaugural Friends of Bison Basketball Dinner was a big success last year, highlighted by talks by Hall-of-Fame coaches Charlie Woollum and Pat Flannery. The dinner is intended to celebrate the history of Bucknell basketball by connecting many different eras of the program along with the current team.
Muscala is one of the finest centers in program history. He graduated as Bucknell's all-time leading scorer with 2,036 points and the No. 2 rebounder with 1,093. He was a four-time All-Patriot League selection and two-time Patriot League Player of the Year while leading the team to the NCAA Tournament in 2011 and 2013 as well as to the NIT in 2012. He was also the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year and an Academic All-American.
Muscala was taken in the second round of the 2013 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks and then immediately traded to the Atlanta Hawks. After a brief stint in Spain, Muscala debuted with the Hawks in March 2014, becoming the very first Bucknell grad to play in the NBA. Muscala recently completed his third season with the Hawks in 2015-16, playing in 60 games off the bench as a backup power forward and center. He will be back with the Hawks again next season.
