LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Chris Hass, who recently wrapped up a terrific basketball career at Bucknell that saw him amass over 1,400 points and earn three all-league citations, has signed his first professional contract with Phoenix Hagen of the top division in Germany.
Phoenix Hagen, coached by Ingo Freyer, finished 14-20 last season and placed 13th in the 20-team BBL. Hass joins a long list of Bucknell alumni who have gone on to play professionally in Germany, among them notable stars such as Chris McNaughton, Charles Lee, John Griffin, Bryson Johnson, Abe Badmus, Donald Brown, Bryan Bailey and Patrick King.
Hass was a First Team All-Patriot League selection in 2015-16, making him a three-time PL all-star. He ranked third in the league in scoring at 17.2 points per game while helping Bucknell claim the league's outright regular-season title for the fifth time in the last six years.
Hass scored in double figures in 28 of 31 games and topped the 20-point mark seven times, including a memorable 40-point game at Army West Point on Jan. 2. He finished his career ranked No. 11 on Bucknell's career scoring list with 1,402 points, and his 190 career 3-point field goals are sixth-most in program history.
This will not be Hass' first experience playing overseas. He traveled to the Philippines with Athletes in Action in the summer of 2015, and he averaged 25.6 points per game on Bucknell's 2014 tour of Belgium and France.
