LEWISBURG, Pa. – Lisa Francisco, a former LPGA Tour Caddie who was a member of the Penn State women's golf team during her college career, has been named head women's golf coach at Bucknell, director of athletics and recreation John Hardt announced Monday. Francisco becomes the third head coach in the history of the program that began competition in fall 1998.
"We are excited to welcome Lisa to our department," said Hardt. "Complimenting her previous experience as a Division I student-athlete, assistant coach and LPGA tour caddie, Lisa embraces our mission and commitment to developing the whole scholar-athlete and supporting their success both in the classroom and on the course."
"I am extremely excited to become the head women's golf coach at Bucknell University,” said Francisco. “I want to thank the department's leadership for the opportunity to become part of an institution that values the complete student-athlete experience on and off the course. After visiting campus, I feel confident that with the support of the Lewisburg community, and the university's academic and athletic staff, the future for the Bison women's golf program is bright. I am looking forward to getting to know the talented student-athletes and the upcoming season on the links."
A December 2000 graduate of Penn State with a degree in recreation and park management, Francisco spent three years on the LPGA Tour as a caddie. In that role, she assisted professional golfers in golf course management, organized on-course notes, created golf course strategies and provided moral support. Francisco was also responsible for recruiting top players to professional tournaments.
Francisco has two years of college coaching experience at the College of William & Mary. She was an assistant to the director of golf with the Tribe and had a hand in all aspects of the women's golf program from recruiting to organizing travel and home tournaments. Francisco also spent a year as a volunteer assistant at Penn State following graduation.
Around the time she was at William & Mary, Francisco also served as assistant golf professional at Kingsmill Resort & Spa and The Traditions Golf Club at Stonehouse, which are both located in Williamsburg, Virginia.
During her collegiate playing days, Francisco was named to the 1997 ECAC All-Conference Women's Golf Team, and she was a key member of the Nittany Lions' 1999 NCAA East Regional team.
Francisco joins a Bison program that is just a couple years removed from its first Patriot League title, which came in 2014. Entering the 2016-17 season, Bucknell will return players that posted the three lowest scoring averages on the team this past spring, including All-Patriot League selections Lindsay Dodovich and Emily Larson.
