LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Hannah Sunday (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, the organization announced Thursday. Sunday is the first Bison women's water polo player to earn All-America honors since Kandis Canonica in 2011.
A total of 32 players nationally were named Honorable Mention All-Americans, while 23 other student-athletes were named to one of the three All-America squads.
Sunday is the fifth different Bucknell player to be named an All-American, joining Meagan Gins, Valentina Rozas, Aubrey Rowe and Canonica.
A three-time first-team all-conference selection, Sunday led Bucknell with a career-high 69 goals this past season. A starter in all 33 games, she paced the team with a program single-season record 128 ejections drawn and ranked second on the squad with 74 points. Sunday's 27 steals placed her among the team leaders.
Sunday is the program's career leader in ejections drawn with 387, nearly 100 more than second-place Rozas. She owns three of the top four spots on the single-season ejections drawn list. Only one other player has had 90 ejections drawn in a season, and Sunday reached that figure three times.
Sunday's 69 goals this past year placed her fourth on that list, while her 194 career goals rank sixth in school history.
In addition to her numerous all-conference honors, Sunday was named to the All-CWPA Championship Team three times.
Sunday was part of a Bison team this past year that finished 18-15 overall on its way to a fifth-place showing at the CWPA Championship. It marked Bucknell's most wins since 2009 and was its best postseason finish since 2010.
