Lombardo Wins Long Jump, Bison Men In 3rd at PL Outdoor Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's track and field team battled through rainy conditions Friday to turn in quality results on the opening day of competition at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
Navy holds a commanding lead with 83 points, while Army West Point is second with 38 points followed by Bucknell with 37.50. There's still a long way to go, with points in 15 events up for grabs on Saturday.
Sophomore Nicholas Lombardo earned the gold medal in the long jump, beating out 17 participants with a leap of 23-7 ¼ to earn First-Team All-Patriot League honors.
A 4x800-meter relay squad comprised of Ryan Johnson, Scott Gulizio, Cole Conte and John Westwood earned Second Team All-PL accolades with a runner-up finish. The team crossed the line in 7:32.05, which is a new top-10 program mark.
In his final conference championship meet, senior Olu Shoyoye earned the bronze medal in the hammer throw. Shoyoye recorded a toss of 183-08, which is a new personal-record and a top-10 performance in school history.
On the track, senior Peter Murray added to the Bison score with a fourth-place finish in the 10,000. Murray completed the event with an IC4A-qualifying time of 30:35.51, shaving 25 seconds off his previous personal-record (31:00.83).
Senior Pat Mulrooney and freshman Bo Burleigh scored for the Bison in the javelin, placing fifth and sixth, respectively. Also scoring for the Bison was freshman Matthew Fay, who placed seventh in the pole vault with a height of 15-5.
Senior Grant Reynolds advanced past the preliminaries of the 110 hurdles, completing the event in 14.52 to place third. Dan Gevirtz qualified for tomorrow's 200-meter final with a new PR of 21.71 to finish eighth.
Sophomore Adam Karl is off to a great start in the decathlon. He sits in second-place after five events, fueled by first-place finishes in the 100 and high jump events.
Competition Saturday begins at 11:15 a.m. with the men's triple jump and concludes with the men's 4x400 relay at 5:25 p.m. Saturday's events will broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
