LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell senior long-stick defensive midfielder Alex Spring has received an honorable mention on the 2016 USILA/Nike All-America Team.
One of nine LSMs to earn All-America status, Spring was a Second Team All-Patriot League selection in 2016, his second career all-conference citation. He was an Honorable Mention All-American coming into the season, and he was selected by the Florida Launch in the Major League Lacrosse Draft in January. Spring was also selected to the Patriot League All-Academic Team.
Spring was of the nation's top long-pole ground ball artists. This season, Spring had a team-high 73 ground balls, and his average of 4.9 per game rank four in the Patriot League and 23rd nationally. Spring's 258 career ground balls rank second in Bucknell history and 10th in Patriot League history. The 73 ground balls are eighth-most in a season at Bucknell.
Bucknell has now claimed 28 All-Americans at the honorable mention level or above since men's lacrosse joined the varsity ranks in 1968. The Bison have had at least one All-American in 13 of the last 16 years.
Bucknell compiled a 10-5 record in 2016. The Bison advanced to the Patriot League Tournament semifinals, where they fell in overtime to a Loyola team that is playing in the Final Four this weekend.
