LEWISBURG, Pa. – Top-seeded Navy won the 2016 Patriot League Baseball Championship on Monday when it beat second-seeded Holy Cross 1-0 in a deciding game three in Annapolis. Following the game, the Patriot League All-Tournament Team was announced and Bucknell seniors Andrew Andreychik (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) and Joe Ogren (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) were honored.
Bucknell (18-34, 8-12 PL) qualified for the Patriot League Tournament as the No. 4 seed and played Navy in a best-of-three semifinal series earlier this month. The Bison won game one, but the Mids claimed the final two contests to advance.
This is the first time Andreychik has earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, while it is Ogren's second time. The second baseman was the MVP of the 2014 Patriot League Tournament that Bucknell won.
A Second Team All-Patriot League selection this year, Andreychik pitched 7.2 innings in his postseason start against Navy and earned his career-high-tying fifth win of the season in the 9-3 victory over the Mids. The right hander scattered 10 hits and just one of the three runs he allowed was earned. Andreychik struck out four in the contest.
The postseason win capped a strong season for Andreychik. He finished the campaign 5-4 with a 3.58 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 75.1 innings. Bucknell's No. 1 starter during weekend series, he totaled three complete games in his 11 starts and was second on the team in ERA. Andreychik allowed one earned run or fewer in each of his final five starts, including pitching nine shutout innings against Holy Cross in late April.
Andreychik concluded his Bison career ranked in the top 10 in program history in eight statistical categories, including tied for first in shutouts. He was 18-17 with a 3.46 ERA with 181 strikeouts in 244.1 innings over the last four years. He is tied for second on the school's all-time wins list.
Ogren was 4-for-11 (.364) with one double, one home run and five RBIs in the Semifinal Series against Navy. He was especially strong in the Bison win, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs on a homer to right-center in the fourth inning that staked Bucknell to an 8-0 cushion over the Mids.
A three-time All-Patriot League choice, including a second-team honoree this year, Ogren hit .293 with four home runs, 39 RBIs and 39 runs scored this spring while starting all 52 games at second base.
A four-year starter, Ogren finished his career hitting .307 with 11 home runs, 114 RBIs, 207 hits and 131 runs scored. He ranks in the top 10 in program history in 11 categories, including being listed first in both games started (190) and most times hit by pitch (39).
