LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell baseball team was well represented on the All-Patriot League Teams, which were announced Tuesday by the league office. Five Bison were named All-Patriot League, including juniors Sam Clark (3B) and Brett Smith (CF), who were first-team honorees. Seniors Andrew Andreychik (P), Joe Ogren (2B) and Spencer Stokes (1B) were members of the Second Team.
Ogren earned his third career All-Patriot League award and Smith his second, while the other three were named All-Patriot League for the first time. Andreychik (2013) and Smith (2014) were previously named the league's Rookie of the Year.
All-Patriot League honors and major awards were voted on by Patriot League head coaches, who could not select their own student-athletes. Bucknell tied with Lehigh for the second-most All-Patriot League selections behind only regular-season champion Navy's seven.
Smith, a Second Team All-Patriot League selection in 2014, has had an outstanding year at the top of the Bison lineup. The three-year starter in center field ranks third in the Patriot League with a team-best .330 batting average. Smith ranks in the top five in the league in eight offensive categories, including first in triples (7) and at bats (203). He is tied for the league lead in hits (67).
A starter in 139 consecutive games, Smith is a career .287 hitter with 21 extra-base hits, 43 RBIs and 162 hits. He has scored 116 runs in his 147 career games.
Clark earned his first All-Patriot League award in a bounce back year. The junior third baseman missed some time due to injury last season, but returned to form this spring, hitting .289 with three home runs, 25 RBIs and 20 runs scored in 43 starts. Clark is fifth on the team with 12 multi-hit games and he has posted six multi-RBI outings. His nine-game hitting streak in early April was the fourth-longest on the team this season.
A veteran of 112 career games, Clark will enter this weekend's Patriot League Semifinal Series at Navy with 92 career hits.
Andreychik has been a four-year weekend starter for the Bison and he has continued his remarkable consistency this year. He is 4-4 with a 3.86 ERA and 53 strikeouts in a team-high 67.2 innings. During Patriot League play, Andreychik has been especially strong, going 3-1 with a 1.96 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 36.2 innings.
A right-hander who is Bucknell's No. 1 starter this year, Andreychik currently ranks in the top 10 in program history in eight different career pitching categories. He is a team captain, along with classmates Ogren, Tommy Pennington and Dan Keller.
Ogren, who was recently named CoSIDA Academic All-District, earned his third consecutive All-Patriot League citation. He was a First Team All-Patriot League choice as a sophomore in 2014 and has now been on the Second Team in back-to-back years.
The second baseman who was the 2014 Patriot League Tournament MVP is hitting .288 with three home runs, a team-high 34 RBIs, 36 runs scored and a .405 on-base percentage. He ranks in the top 10 in the Patriot League in nine offensive categories this season.
On a career level, Ogren is a .306 hitter with 10 home runs, 109 RBIs, 203 hits and 128 runs scored. He ranks in the top 10 in program history in 12 statistical categories.
In his first year as a full-time starter Stokes earned his first All-Patriot League nod. The senior has found a home at first base this year and is second on the team with a .307 batting average. He and Ogren tied for second on the team in hitting during Patriot League play with strong .329 marks.
A starter in 44 games, Stokes is second on the team with 28 RBIs, has 54 hits and has scored 20 runs. His 16 doubles rank him tied for sixth on the program's single-season list.
After a nearly two-week layoff for final exams, Bucknell will return to action this weekend (May 14-15) for the best-of-three Patriot League Semifinal Series against top-seeded Navy in Annapolis. The Bison are the fourth seed in the field. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at noon, while Sunday's if-necessary game three is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
