LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Led by a pair of 3-over-par 73s from junior Emily Larson and sophomore Lindsay Dodovich, the Bucknell women's golf team posted a terrific 301 total in the final round of the Patriot League Championship on Sunday at the Bucknell Golf Club. That is the lowest score in any conference championship round for the Bison, who finished in fourth place behind Richmond, Boston University and Lehigh.
Bucknell was a member of the Big South Conference in women's golf from 2003-12, and the Patriot League began sponsoring the sport in 2013. Bucknell's previous best 18-hole score in any league championship was a 303 in the second round of the Big South tourney at The Patriot at Grand Harbor in 2010, and its best Patriot League total was a second-round 306 en route to the 2014 title at Saucon Valley CC. The 301 is also the seventh-best 18-hole score in team history in any event.
The Bison finished with a 927 total over 54 holes this weekend .That is the third-best tally in school history, and the best ever in a postseason championship. The strong finish came in the finale for head coach Kevin Jamieson, who will be stepping down at the end of the season after 16 seasons at the helm.
Richmond became the fourth champion in the four-year history of the Patriot League Championship, finishing with a 54-hole total of 913. Boston University was second at 919, followed by Lehigh (921), Bucknell (927), Navy (942) and Holy Cross (1033).
Bucknell's 301 was the second-best team score in the six-team field on Sunday, trailing only Boston University's 299. The strong finish was spearheaded by the terrific 73s from Larson and Dodovich, who both earned All-Patriot League honors. The 73s were one shot behind the best final-round score, a 72 from medalist Adela Cejnarova of Boston University.
Larson, who was a Second Team All-Patriot League selection last season, moved up to the First Team with a T-4th finish (78-78-73). The 73 was her career low. After making a double-bogey on No. 12 (Bucknell started the day at the 10th hole), Larson went on to play the final 15 holes in 1-over, including birdies at 16 and 4.
Dodovich secured her first career All-Patriot League citation with a Second Team nod. She placed T-9th at 232 (78-81-73). Dodovich also double-bogeyed No. 12, but the rest of her card featured 14 pars, a birdie at the par-5 third hole, and just two other bogeys.
Senior Jen Lee, who was a Second-Team All-Patriot League honoree last season, and freshman Katie Childers both finished T-11th, missing all-conference spots by just two strokes. Childers finished with a 77 and Lee with a 78 on Sunday. Childers had a very consistent day with 11 pars and seven bogeys. Lee was 1-over through nine holes before running into some trouble on the inward nine, but she closed out the tournament with three straight pars.
Also for Bucknell on Sunday, junior Callie Nelson shot 84 and freshman Eunbbie Kim 85.
