OT Goals by Johnson, Sunday and Marrs Propel Women's Water Polo to 15-13 Win at George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Overtime goals by Kendyl Johnson, Hannah Sunday and Eleanor Marrs helped the Bucknell women's water polo team open up a three-goal lead in the extra periods and the Bison held on for a 15-13 overtime victory over George Washington Sunday morning. The win helped the Bison finish the weekend with a 2-1 record and improve to 14-12 overall and 2-1 in CWPA league play. The Colonials fell to 6-12, 0-3 CWPA.
The two teams were tied 12-12 going into overtime. Johnson and Sunday scored in the first of two three-minute overtime periods to put Bucknell up 14-12. Marrs then netted her third goal of the game in the next period to make it 15-12 before George Washington's Hannah Cox brought the Colonials back within two at 15-13.
It was the second overtime win this season for the Bison, who defeated Iona 11-10 in February. Bucknell is now 5-2 in its last seven games overall and it has scored double figure goals in a season-high four straight contests.
Sunday, Marrs and Tegan Stanbach led the Bison offense with three goals apiece. Colleen Barron and Marta Considine chipped in two goals apiece. Barron, Sunday and Marrs each posted three multi-goal outings this weekend. Sunday and Marrs tied for team-high honors with eight goals this weekend. Sunday now has a team-high 59 goals this season, putting her in 12th place on Bucknell's single-season list.
Sunday also drew 25 ejections this weekend, including eight against the Colonials. The Bison had a season-high 15 ejections drawn in the contest.
Emily Konishi dished out four assists for Bucknell, equaling the most by a Bison player this year. She also scored one goal and tied for the team lead with a pair of steals.
As has been the case all weekend, goalies Manuela Herrera and Haley Derrod split time in goal for Bucknell. Herrera played the first and third quarters as well as overtime and finished with six saves. Derrod played the second and fourth quarters and posted two saves.
Bucknell will wrap up the regular season next weekend with four more league games. The Bison will face Michigan, Harvard, Indiana and Princeton all at Princeton's DeNunziio Pool.
