BOSTON, Mass. – Luke Giugliano placed second in the 5000-meter and Bucknell qualified for the finals in three events on the second day of the IC4A Championships at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center.
Giugliano earned All-East accolades with his runner-up finish in the 5000, crossing the line in 14:28.71, a new personal-record. Iona's Gilbert Kirui won the event with a time of 14:21.15.
John Westwood was one of two Bison to qualify for the finals in individual events. Westwood advanced past the preliminaries of the 1,000 with a first-place time of 2:25.03. His time was fast enough to win the title in last year's IC4A Championships. Last season's winner was Andrew Garcia-Garrison, who crossed the line in 2:25.36.
Grant Reynolds will compete in the finals of the 60 hurdles on Sunday after advancing past the preliminaries with a time of 8.14 and running it in 8.13 to qualify ninth out of the semifinal heat.
Also competing in the finals is the 4x800 relay team of Kyle Adams, David Frering, Cole Conte and Ryan Johnson. The quartet finished in 7:39.77 to take eighth in the preliminaries.
“A very solid day for some of our men,” says head coach Kevin Donner. Luke ran a fantastic race in the 5k to finish second. He is really developing great consistency. It was great to see Grant run two nice races to make the final in the 60 hurdles. LJ looked smooth in the 1,000 and our 4x800 relay ran very tough and squeezed in tomorrow's final.”
Competition resumes with the triple jump on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
