Bison Win 14 Events, Qualify Five for IC4As at the Jim Taylor Invite

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Bucknell men's track and field team opened its outdoor season Saturday at Susquehanna's Jim Taylor Invitational at Nicholas A. Lompardo Stadium. The Bison won 14 events, while five qualified for the IC4A Outdoor Championships.
Grant Reynolds kicked off the outdoor season with a first place finish in 110-meter hurdles. Reynolds beat out a field of 13 runners with an IC4A-qualifying time of 14.80.
In his outdoor debut, Rocco Ordille took first out of 36 in the 100, finishing in 11.10. Daniel Gevirtz took first out of 42 in the 200, finishing with a time of 22.46.
Gevirtz, Ordille, Reynolds and Griffin Robertson teamed up to compete in the 4x100 relay, taking first place with an IC4A-qualifying time of 42.26.
In the 5,000, John Westwood finished first with a time 15:03.60, while Ross Pirnie beat out 54 runners in the 1,500, crossing the line in 3:59.0. Benjamin Mueller took the top spot in the 3000 steeplechase, crossing the line at 10:04.09.
Joseph Breen took the top spot in the discus, beating out 36 throwers with an IC4A-qualifying toss of 154-10. Breen also qualified for the IC4A Championships in the shot put with his throw of 53-2 ¼. .
Mark Stafurik won the title in the hammer throw, recording a heave of 175-6, which meets the IC4A standards.
The Bison men swept all three jumping events. Elijah Kay took first in the high jump, beating out 17 jumpers with a leap of 6-4 ¾, while Nicholas Lombardo (22-1) won the long jump and Reggie Harris (45-9 ¼.) took the triple jump.
Matthew Fay won the pole vault title, clearing 15-5. His vault is a new top-10 mark in program history. Anthony Menza won the 400, completing the event in 49.70.
Pat Mulrooney qualified for the IC4A Championships Saturday with his runner up finish in the javelin.
"I was really happy with our first meet," says head coach Kevin Donner. "Traditionally, when we come back from spring break, we really load up the training and train through the first meet and I do not worry about times or distances, yet this year the times and distances were still pretty solid which bodes well for the next few weeks."
Giugliano Competes at Raleigh Relays
RALEIGH, N.C. – Bucknell men's track and field senior Luke Giugliano competed on the opening day of the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State.
Guigliano competed in the 10,000-meter run, taking 43rd in a field of 89 runners with a time of 30:42.74.
The Bucknell men's track and field team returns to action on Apr. 1-2 to compete at the Colonial Relays.
