LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Freshman Kaitlyn Slagus recorded her first career double-double in Bucknell women's basketball's final regular season game on Wednesday, and one day later has received the Lids Team Sports Patriot League Rookie of the Week award. It is the fifth time this season she has received the honor, while helping the Bison earn a share of the league's regular season title with a 23-6 overall record and 17-1 mark in the conference.
Slagus scored 16 points and 11 rebounds in Bucknell's 68-59 win at Lafayette on Wednesday night. The freshman was 6-of-10 from the field, shooting 2-of-4 from long range, and tallied a pair of free throws. She also contributed two assists and a steal. Her efforts helped the Bison up their program records for overall wins and league wins in a season.
Slagus's five Rookie of the Week awards are the most by any player in the league since current Bucknell junior Claire DeBoer received the honor eight times during the 2013-14 season. Over the past three seasons, the Bison have won the award 22 out of a possible 50 times. Also contributing to that total were current players Jacquie Klotz (4), Megan McGurk (2), Kyi English (2) and Kate Walker (1).
Bucknell is the second seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will host a quarterfinal game at Sojka Pavilion on Monday at 7 p.m. The Bison will play the winner of seventh-seeded American and 10th-seeded Boston University, which will square off in Washington, D.C. on Saturday.
