Bybel Named PL Player of the Week; Men's Tennis Prepares for Busy Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Nick Bybel recorded his biggest win of the spring season this past weekend, topping James Madison's Sebastian Salinas in Bucknell's hard-fought 4-3 loss. On Monday, the Bison senior was voted the Patriot League Player of the Week.
Bybel's win over Salinas came in straight sets, but neither came easy as the Bucknell captain edged the Dukes' junior 7-5, 7-5. Salinas was ranked 123rd in the nation and 11th in the Atlantic Region entering the spring season. The win was the sixth straight for Bybel, upping his record to 10-3.
Bucknell split its matches last week, including a 4-3 win at Mount St. Mary's. Bybel registered a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Austin Blake at No. 1 singles. He 2-0 in singles on the week and 1-1 in doubles, teaming with freshman Andrei Vitiuc for a 6-3 win at No. 2 against James Madison.
The Bison (8-9) now prepare for a busy week, which includes one road match and two at home. They will travel to Villanova for a 3 p.m. contest on Tuesday, will host Loyola (Md.) for Senior Day on Saturday at noon, and will host Colgate on Sunday at 1 p.m.
In addition to Senior Day, Bucknell will celebrate Alumni Weekend during its matches with Loyola (Md.) and Colgate.
at Villanova | Tuesday, 3 p.m.
- Villanova is 4-7 with losses in its past three matches. The most recent defeat came via a 6-1 score to Lehigh.
- Including Lehigh, the Wildcats have played three Patriot League teams. They lost 7-0 to Navy and defeated Colgate 3-2.
- Bucknell leads 11-7 in the all-time series with Villanova, which dates all the way back to 1931.
- The Bison edged the Wildcats 4-3 last season. Bybel, Daniel Wright and Max Kane all had wins in singles.
vs. Loyola (Md.) | Saturday, Noon | SENIOR DAY
- Loyola is 9-4 overall following a 7-0 win at Rider.
- The Greyhounds are 0-1 in league play. They were shut out 7-0 by Lehigh.
- Loyola was picked to finish seventh in the Patriot League.
- Bucknell is 7-1 all-time against Loyola. The teams first met in 1955.
- The Bison won 5-2 when the teams played last season. Bybel, Wright and Kane had wins in singles.
vs. Colgate | Sunday, 1 p.m.
- Colgate is 11-4 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League following a 4-3 loss to Boston University.
- The Raiders' conference win came via a 7-0 shutout over Holy Cross.
- Colgate was picked to finish sixth in the Patriot League.
- Bucknell is 17-50 in the all-time series with Colgate. The teams first met in 1942.
- The teams met twice last season, with the Raiders winning 4-3 in the regular season. The Bison got revenge with a 4-0 win in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Tournament. Bybel, Wright and Bryan Adams had wins in singles.
