Men's Tennis Heads to Florida for Five Matches

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team is set to play five matches during its spring break trip to Orlando, Florida on March 13-16. Included on the schedule for the Bison are Northern Illinois, Babson, Quinnipiac, Farleigh Dickinson and Southern Mississippi.
Bucknell enters its spring trip with a 5-5 record after going 1-2 in a recent trip to Virginia. The Bison fell to No. 55 Old Dominion and William & Mary and posted a win over Norfolk State.
The Bison have four players with a dual record better than .500. Daniel Wright and Andrei Vitiuc are 5-4, Nick Bybel is 4-3, and Max McDonald is 3-2.
McDonald was the lone singles winner against William & Mary, which is ranked 62nd in the nation. After dropping the first set 6-2, he rallied with 6-4 and 10-6 wins in the final two sets.
The Bison came out strong against The Tribe, clinching the doubles point with a pair of victories. Bybel and Bryan Adams were 7-6 winners at No. 1, while Wright and Ben Gerber were 6-4 victors at No. 2.
Bybel and Adams improved to 2-2 during the spring, while Wright and Gerber upped their record to 2-1.
Northern Illinois | Sunday, 1 p.m.
- Northern Illinois is 10-5 following a 6-1 win at Marquette. Prior to that, the Huskies posted wins over SIU Edwardsville and Western Illinois.
- The Huskies' record was bolstered by a five-match winning streak.
- Tom Hjertonsson is 10-1 during the spring season, including unbeaten marks of 4-0 at No. 3 singles and 3-0 at No. 4 singles.
- Bucknell is 0-1 all-time against Northern Illinois. The Huskies won the lone meeting 6-1 in 2012.
Babson | Sunday, 6 p.m.
- Babson is 1-2 after a 7-2 win over Keiser. Its other loss came to Bates, while the win was over Messiah.
- Brandon Rosenbluth is 2-0 this spring with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles.
- Babson was 14-4 last season and a perfect 6-0 in conference play.
- Bucknell and Babson will meet for the first time in program history.
Quinnipiac | Tuesday, 10:30 a.m.
- Quinnipiac is 6-3 with a 6-1 win over Boston University in its most recent match.
- The Bobcats have three 7-0 wins this season, shutting out Rider, Hartford and Saint Peter's.
- Freddie Zaretsky is 7-1 at No. 2 singles during the spring season.
- Bucknell is 5-2 in the all-time series with Quinnipiac. The teams last played in 2012, with the Bobcats winning 4-3.
Fairleigh Dickinson | Tuesday, 7 p.m.
- Fairleigh Dickinson is 0-3 with losses to NYIT, St. John's and NJIT.
- The Knights advanced to the championship match of last season's NEC Tournament.
- Bucknell and Fairleigh Dickinson will meet for the first time in program history.
Southern Mississippi |Wednesday, 1 p.m.
- Southern Miss is 9-7 with a 4-0 loss to Texas in its most recent match.
- The loss to Texas came at the HEB Invitational, where the Golden Eagles also posted wins over DePaul and Texas A&M Corpus-Christi
- Chao-Yu Huang is 13-6 during the spring, including a 12-6 record at No. 3 singles.
- Bucknell is 0-1 all-time against Southern Mississippi. The lone meeting came last season, with the Golden Eagles winning 6-1. Bybel had the lone victory for the Bison.
