LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Coming off a solid showing in Las Vegas earlier this week, the Bucknell women's golf team gets back in action on Monday and Tuesday at the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by The Citadel at Patriots Point Links in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The team will then remain in the Palmetto State for the Low Country Intercollegiate in Hilton Head on March 19-20.
The inaugural Bulldog Invitational will feature a 10-team field. In addition to Bucknell and host The Citadel, other teams competing include Appalachian State, Drake, Lamar, Navy, Radford, Siena, Western Illinois and Wofford. Wofford is the highest-ranked team in the field with a Golfweek ranking of 149.
Later in the week, the Bison will appear at the Low Country Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford at Moss Creek GC in Hilton Head. Bucknell has competed in this tournament twice previously, finishing seventh in 2009 and 12th in 2010.
Other teams in the field include Navy, Seton Hall, Bethune-Cookman, Longwood, Brown, Chattanooga, Presbyterian, High Point, William and Mary, Appalachian State, The Citadel, USC Upstate, USC Beaufort, SCAD Savannah and Dalton State.
For both tournaments next week, the Bison will send out the same five-person starting lineup that just finished fifth out of 11 teams at the Battle at Boulder Creek II near Las Vegas. Emily Larson, Jen Lee, Katie Childers, Lindsay Dodovich and Eunbbie Kim will tee it up at Patriots Point.
Lee and Childers are both coming off top-20 finishes at Boulder Creek. Lee was low Bison with rounds of 79-76-79, good for T-16th. Childers shot 75-77 on the first day of the tournament before finishing with an 85, and she placed T-19th.
Larson closed well with a 77 after opening 81-80. Dodovich was the team's low scorer in the fall with a 79.5 average, and she shot 85-84-82 at Boulder Creek in her first action of the spring after missing some time with an injury.
Once the Bison complete play at the two events in South Carolina over Spring Break, there will be just one more tuneup prior to the Patriot League Championship. Bucknell will play at the Crusader/Jaguar Challenge at The Course at Aberdeen in Valparaiso, Indiana on Apr. 9-10, and then the Patriot League Championship returns to the Bucknell Golf Club on Apr. 23-24.
