ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Day two of the ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships brought a number of strong performances for the Bucknell women's squad, including a school record by junior Diana Hanson in a bronze-medal performance in the 100-yard breaststroke. The Bison are in seventh place out of 23 scoring teams with one more day of competition still to come.
Hanson touched the wall in 1:03.02 in the 100 breast, clipping her own Bucknell record of 1:03.33, set at the 2015 Patriot League Championships at Kinney Natatorium. Hanson finished third in the finals, trailing only Rutgers' Rachel Stoddard, who set a meet record in 1:00.82, and Virginia's Audrey Gould (1:02.69).
Hanson's performance came 24 hours after a fourth-place finish in the 200 individual medley on Friday night. She was not the only Bucknell scorer in the 100 breast, as Mary Weinstein won the consolation final to score ninth-place points with a time of 1:05.99.
Also swimming in the finals on Saturday were Julianna Foss in the 100 butterfly and Rachel Perry in the 100 backstroke. Perry took sixth in 56.12, while Maddi Marcheskie placed 14th in 57.85.
Foss finished eighth in the 100 fly in 55.86, just off her school record of 55.23 set last week at the Patriot League Championships. Caroline Edelman also scored in the 100 fly with a 13th-place finish in 57.32. Edelman's prelim time of 56.84 makes her the ninth-fastest Bucknell performer all-time in that event.
Also scoring for the Bison was Jasmine Spinelli, who took 14th in the 400 IM in 4:32.21.
Bucknell chalked up some solid relay points with a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay and a sixth-place showing in the 800 freestyle relay.
In the 200 medley relay, Perry, Hanson, Foss and Marcheskie took fourth in 1:44.77, making them the 10th-fastest foursome in school history.
Laureana Zrada, Edelman, Leanne Archer and Lindsay Smalec placed sixth in the 800 free relay in 7:40.96.
Bucknell has 204 points to sit in seventh place in the team standings, trailing Virginia (539.5), Army (264), Navy (245.5), Marist (244.5), Penn (240.5) and Pittsburgh (212). Eighth-place Columbia is well behind the Bison with 130.5 points.
The ECAC Championships wrap up Sunday, with trials starting at 9 a.m. and finals at 4 p.m. at Navy's Lejeune Hall.
