Men's Tennis Takes Down Norfolk State, 5-2

NORFOLK, Va. -- Nick Bybel won a match-clinching three-setter over Benedikt Henning at No. 1 singles, lifting the Bucknell men's tennis team to a 5-2 victory over Norfolk State on Saturday evening. Bybel also teamed with Bryan Adams for a win at first doubles, helping the Bison get to 5-4 in spring duals.

The Bison took the doubles point with 6-4 wins from Bybel/Adams at No. 1 and Daniel Wright and Ben Gerber at No. 2. Bybel, Wright and Gerber all came back to win in singles, along with a default for Max Haase at No. 6.

Bybel improved to 3-0 in three-set matches this year with a 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Henning at No. 1 singles. That gave Bucknell its fourth point of the match and locked up the victory.

Earlier, Wright won his team-leading 13th match of the season, a 7-5, 6-0 decision over Flavian Fernandez at No. 2 singles. Gerber then rounded out the scoring with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-4, (10-4) win over Fatehdeep Singh at No. 5.

"This was a great team effort, and I am really happy to sneak out a win," said head coach Craig Schwartz. "I think our doubles are getting better match after match, which will be critical down the stretch for us. We look forward to playing against a tough William & Mary team tomorrow morning."

The Bison and Tribe will serve it up at 10 a.m. Sunday in Williamsburg, Va. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since a Bucknell win in 1967.
