Men's Tennis Prepares for Busy Weekend in Virginia

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team heads to Virginia this weekend for three non-conference matches in three days. The Bison will be in Norfolk the first two days to play Old Dominion on Friday at 12:30 p.m. and Norfolk State on Saturday at 6 p.m. They will wrap up the road trip with a match at William and Mary on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Bucknell is 4-3 after splitting a pair of matches last weekend. Both contests were decided by one point, as the Bison fell 4-3 to Saint Francis on Saturday before bouncing back with a 4-3 win over Youngstown State on Sunday.
Sophomore Daniel Wright was a perfect 4-0 last weekend, winning two matches at No. 3 singles and two matches at No. 2 doubles. He had a challenging weekend, needing a 10-8 tiebreaker in the first set of a straight sets win against Saint Francis, and a 7-5 tiebreaker victory in the second set of his singles win over Youngstown State.
Wright's wins in doubles both came with sophomore Max Kane as his partner. They won 6-3 over their opponents from the Red Flash and 6-4 over their competition from the Penguins.
Senior Nick Bybel will get a chance to boost his presence on the regional and national level this weekend as he is projected for a matchup with Old Dominion's Adam Moundir. The Monarchs' player is ranked 12th in the Atlantic Region and 103rd in the nation. Bybel is 3-1 this spring and is listed 18th in the Atlantic Region.

- Old Dominion is ranked 55th in the nation. The Monarchs are 7-3 with wins in each of their past five matches, including 4-3 victory over then-No. 34 Dartmouth.
- All three of the Monarchs' losses have come against nationally-ranked teams in Oregon, UC Irvine and Penn State.
- Adam Moundir is ranked 103rd in the nation, but was as high as 68th in the previous rankings.
- Moundir is ranked 12th in the Atlantic Region, while Michael Weindl is ranked 16th. The doubles team of Moundir and Aziz Kijametovic is ranked fifth in the region.
- Bucknell and Old Dominion have played just one other time, with the Monarchs recording a 7-0 win.
at Norfolk State | Saturday, Feb. 27 – 6 p.m. | Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center
- Norfolk State is 0-4 to open the spring season.
- The Spartans' losses have come to Old Dominion, UNCW, Liberty and James Madison.
- Antonio Pejic has won each of his past two matches, improving to 1-2 at No. 3 singles and 1-0 at No. 4.
- Norfolk State was 7-13 last season.
- Bucknell and Norfolk State have met just one other time, with the Spartans winning in 2003.
at William & Mary | Sunday, Feb. 28 – 10 a.m. | McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center
- William and Mary is 7-3 following a 5-2 loss to Penn State in its most recent match.
- The loss to the Nittany Lions snapped the Tribe's six-match winning streak. All six of those wins came by at least five points.
- The team's top player, Christian Cargill, is 7-3 at No. 1 singles during the spring, including a 6-0 record during the team's six-match winning streak.
- Bucknell and William & Mary have played just one other time, with the Bison winning in 1967.
