LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team continues its busy road schedule to open the season as it travels for a pair of matches this weekend. The Bison will make the trip to Monroeville, Pennsylvania to take on Saint Francis on Saturday at 3 p.m., and will travel to play Youngstown State on Sunday at 9 a.m.
The Bison are coming off a 6-1 loss to No. 47 Penn State, but did see some positives against the tough opponent. Freshman Andrei Vitiuc earned Patriot League Player of the Week honors after posting a win at No. 5 singles and teaming up with Max Haase for a victory at No. 3 doubles. Vitiuc is a perfect 4-0 in singles this spring.
Despite the loss, Bucknell has a winning record at 3-2, which includes shutout wins over Le Moyne, La Salle and Niagara.
Saint Francis enters with a record of 5-2, which includes wins over Patriot League teams Navy and Lafayette. One of the losses, though, was to Lehigh. The Red Flash are coming off a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Carnegie Mellon.
Bucknell dropped a 4-3 decision to Saint Francis last season, with Nick Bybel, Daniel Wright and Max Kane posting wins for the Bison. The Red Flash competed at a Bucknell event this fall in which the Bison dominated the competition.
Youngstown State is 3-5 on the year after beating Carnegie Mellon 4-3 in its most recent match. The Penguins also have wins over St. Bonaventure and Duquesne.
Bucknell's schedule only gets busier next weekend as it goes on the road for three matches in three days. The Bison will play at Old Dominion on Friday, at Hampton on Saturday and at William & Mary on Sunday.
