Women's Water Polo Goes 2-0 in Final Day of Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – Eleanor Marrs totaled nine points and Bucknell outscored its two opponents 12-5 in the second half as the Bison women's water polo team wrapped up play at the Princeton Invitational Sunday with a pair of victories. Bucknell (4-4) defeated Cal Lutheran 13-8 in the morning and followed with a 9-5 victory over Villanova in the afternoon.
The Bison have now won three games in a row and were 3-1 this weekend. They are now 4-0 against unranked opponents this season.
Marrs registered a team-high 10 goals this weekend and five came on Sunday as she scored two goals and dished out three assists in the win over Cal Lutheran. She followed that with a three-goal, one-assist performance in the win over Villanova. Marrs now lead the team in both goals (18) and points (30) this year.
Hannah Sunday scored one goal and drew five ejections in the nightcap win. The five ejections drawn gave her 35 this year and 294 in her career, a new program record. She surpassed Valentina Rozas' mark of 293 that had stood since 2010.
Sunday scored a team-high four goals in the first game on Sunday. She was one of eight Bison to score goals in the contest. Included in that mix was freshman Emily Konishi, who equaled Marrs for game-high honors with five points (2g, 3a).
The Bison led Cal Lutheran by a 7-5 margin at halftime and proceeded to outscore the Regals 6-3 in the final 16 minutes of play.
In the second game vs. Villanova, Bucknell outscored the Wildcats 6-2 in the second half, Villanova scored just three times total in the final three periods. Marrs led the way with three goals, while Colleen Barron chipped in two goals and a pair of assists in the win.
Bucknell will be idle next weekend and will be back in action Feb. 27-28 when it hosts the Bison Invitational.
