LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell juniors Jack Horan and Andrew Podbielski were both named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II Football Team on Thursday. It is the first career honor for both Bison players, and it marks the third straight year at least one Bucknell football player has been named Academic All-District. Both will move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
This is the second time in three years Bucknell football has had multiple Academic All-District honorees. Matt DelMauro and Derek Maurer were both cited in 2014, while DelMauro was honored for a second straight year last fall. DelMauro went on to become an Academic All-American.
Horan spent his first two years at Bucknell as a backup quarterback. He moved to wide receiver during preseason camp this year and has nine receptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Horan caught a 71-yard touchdown pass in his very first game as a wide receiver at Marist, and he later completed a 33-yard pass against Colgate on a trick play.
A member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, Horan is a member of Bucknell's Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for being in the top 10 percent of all first-year students. He is also a leader and organizer of Saint Joseph's Parish Youth Ministry in Mendham, New Jersey. Horan is majoring in accounting and financial management and is a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member.
A veteran of 24 career games, Podbielski is a two-year starting tight end for Bucknell. He has caught a career-high 15 passes for 130 yards this season, including his first career touchdown two weeks ago in a win over Lafayette.
Named the team's Most Improved Offensive Player following 2016 spring practice, Podbielski is a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll while majoring in environmental studies.
Horan and Podbielski and the rest of their Bison teammates will be in action this Saturday, Nov. 5, when they travel to No. 21/24 Lehigh for a Patriot League contest. Kickoff is slated for 12:30 p.m. at Goodman Stadium.
