NEW YORK – Junior Chris Devlin scored first-place points in two events, including his ninth straight win in the 200 back, and Bucknell won four events overall in a 193-105 loss at Columbia in a non-conference men's swimming and diving meet Sunday.
Devlin touched the wall in 1:49.94 to win the 200 back, easily beating the runner-up from Columbia, Jack Foster, who finished in 1:51.63. Devlin is a perfect 4-0 in the race this season and has won nine straight dating back to last season. That stretch includes a title at the 2016 Patriot League Championships.
Devlin's other first-place points came in the 200 IM, which he finished in 1:54.66. That's the fastest time in the event by a Bucknell swimmer this season. He added a runner-up finish in the 200 free with a personal season-best time of 1:42.53.
Also scoring first-place points in an individual event for the Bison was sophomore James Elmendorf in the 100 fly. He won with a time of 53.32, his fastest finish in the event this season. Bucknell freshman Harrison Olle and junior Kyle Bloom were behind him in second and third.
Bucknell added a win in the 200 free relay. Freshman Jimmy Rush, senior Jack Robinson, Elmendorf, and Bloom posted a time of 1:28.20.
Elmendorf had a solid meet, adding a third-place finish in the 100 back. Sophomore Chadd Cummings was third in the 100 breast while competing for the first time since Oct. 15.
Senior Louis Behnen was the runner-up in the 500 free.
Senior Denver Freeman recorded the fastest time by a Bison swimmer this season in the 200 fly and took fifth.
Bucknell dropped to 2-4 overall while Columbia improved to 3-2. The Bison's next seven competitions will be at Kinney Natatorium, starting with the Bucknell Invitational on Dec. 2-4.
