LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior forward Sune Swart has been a force for the women's basketball team through the first two games of the season, recording back-to-back 25-point games in road wins at Binghamton and Saint Joseph's. On Monday, she was voted the season's first The Rock Patriot League Player of the Week.
Swart entered the season with a single-game career-high of 18 points, but eclipsed that in the first half of a 67-57 win at Binghamton. She scored nine straight Bucknell points in the first quarter and had 19 in the half. She went on to finish with 25 points and eight rebounds.
Two days later the Bison traveled to Saint Joseph's and posted a 64-61 come-from-behind victory behind a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds by Swart. She scored Bucknell's first eight points of the game and then gave the team its first lead on a pair of free throws with 43 seconds left in regulation. She helped the Bison erase a 15-point deficit to get the win.
Swart averaged 25.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks over the two games. She shot 70 percent (21-30) from the field and 70 percent (7-10) from the line. She is the first Bison player to record back-to-back 25 points games since 2010 and the first to do it in the first two games of the season since Molly Creamer scored 26 against Albany and 27 against Pittsburgh in 2001.
Bucknell welcomes NJIT for the 2016-17 home opener on Thursday. A pair of banners will be unveiled prior to the game, one for the team sharing the 2015-16 regular season crown in the Patriot League, and the other for its appearance in the WNIT.
