ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Zack Rockmore found the back of the net in the final minute of regulation to propel the Bucknell men's soccer team to a 2-1 win at Navy Saturday at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. With the victory, the Bison improve to 5-8-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the Patriot League.
Rockmore connected on a header in the box with 53 seconds remaining in the second half. Nick King recycled a Bucknell corner kick, crossing the ball back into box to Rockmore, as the Bison pick up three points in the Patriot League standings and earn their first win in Annapolis since 2011.
Following a scoreless first half, Navy (3-7-3, 0-4-1 PL), who entered Saturday 2-0-2 at home this season, got on the board 1:13 into the second half. Ericson Bean connected on a header to the far post off a free kick from Daniel Zaremba.
The Bison scored the equalizer in the 72nd minute. Bernie Wright intercepted a pass on the left side of the field, finding King, who sent a blast from outside the 18-yard box to the right post.
Bucknell finished with a 12-11 shot advantage, including a 5-3 margin on frame, while holding a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Emmett Witmer finished with two saves in the victory, while Mac Burke made three stops for the Midshipmen.
"I'm glad we fought back from a 1-0 deficit," said head coach Brendan Nash. "It's another chapter in Patriot League soccer. We were on the bad end of a late defeat and now we're on the good end of a late victory. Now we have a week to get ready and prepare for an upcoming home matchup against American."
Bucknell returns to action Oct. 15 to host Patriot League preseason favorite American. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
