Men's Swimming and Diving Wins Six Events in Loss at Army West Point

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Bucknell men's swimming and diving team won six events, but fell to Army West Point 174-117 on Saturday at Crandall Poll. The Bison were competing for the first time since taking fourth at the Bucknell Invitational on Nov. 22.
Senior Tyler Wenzel paced the Bison with wins in both diving events. He was just five points off his personal-best score on the 1-meter board, winning with a mark of 278.17. He added a win on the 3-meter board with a score of 265.21. Senior Patrick Alvermann was the runner up in the 3-meter dive with a score of 234.22.
Junior Louis Behnen was also a two-event winner for the Bison, including an outright win in the 500 free. He touched the wall in 4:35.96, finishing more than four seconds faster than second-place Thomas Ottman from Army West Point. Behnen was the fastest scored swimmer and the second-best overall with a time of 4:02.66 in the 400 IM and added a runner-up showing in the 1,000 free.
Sophomore Chris Devlin added one individual win for Bucknell, taking first in the 200 back with a time of 1:48.37. That was nearly a second faster than the runner-up in the race, Army's Josh Sembrano. Devlin also contributed a runner-up finish in the 100 back.
Bucknell's last win came in the 400 free, where Charlie McFarland, Vincent Filippini, Steven Grune and Jack Robinson finished in 3:12 to get the win among scored teams. They were second overall.
Bucknell dropped to 2-4 in scored meets this season, including a 2-3 mark against Patriot League opponents. Army West Point improved to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
The Bison will have a short turnaround before their next competition as they make the trip to Colgate for a 1 p.m. meet on Sunday.
