LEWISBURG, Pa. -- After scoring a pair of dramatic goals that helped the Bucknell men's soccer team win the Mayor's Cup title over the weekend, senior forward Jesse Klug has been named the 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week and the Corvias Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week.
Klug was named the Jim Lennox Offensive Most Valuable Player of the Mayor's Cup for his performance in a 2-2 draw with host Hartwick and in a 1-0 overtime win over Northern Kentucky. Bucknell trailed Hartwick into the final stages of Friday night's game, but Klug's terrific shot just under the crossbar with 4:50 to go helped the Bison steal a point against the Hawks.
On Sunday, Bucknell and Northern Kentucky were scoreless into the second overtime period when Klug came up big again. Connor Willings sent a long throw-in into the box, Justin Galiani headed the ball across the front of the goal, and Klug sent it into the back of the net for the golden goal. The victory, coupled with another Hartwick tie later in the day, gave Bucknell the outright tournament championship with four points.
Klug now has 26 career goals, tying him with Conor O'Brien for the No. 9 spot on the Bucknell career list. It also moves him into a tie for 10th place with O'Brien and two others on the Patriot League's all-time goals list.
Klug earned Patriot League Player of the Week honors for the third time in his career.
Bucknell is now 2-1-1 on the season, and this weekend the Bison will host Saint Francis (Pa.) on Friday night (7 p.m.) and Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon (2 p.m.).
