TEANECK, N.J. -- Chris Thorsheim and Zack Rockmore both found the back of the net on second-half free kicks, helping the Bucknell men's soccer team to a 2-2 tie at Fairleigh Dickinson in a non-conference game on Wednesday night. The Bison are now 3-3-3 on the season, with Holy Cross coming to Lewisburg for a Patriot League contest on Saturday.
Bucknell outshot Fairleigh Dickinson (2-6-1) 9-2 in a scoreless first half, but then the teams combined for four goals in the second stanza, including two within the first three minutes after the intermission.
In the first minute of the second period, the Knights were whistled for a foul far out on the left wing. Thorsheim curled in his free kick, and with two runners darting to the back post, the ball skipped untouched into the far side netting. The goal was Thorsheim's fourth of the season, tying him for the team lead, and 16th of his career.
Just 1:39 later the Knights equalized through Sam Durkot. Devaughn Foster put in a cross from the left side. Durkot came sliding in and got a foot on it, and then finished while lying on the ground.
FDU went up 2-1 in the 66th minute when Christian Dietrich's corner kick was allowed to fall deep into the box, and then it was swept home by Jordon Ellison from close range.
Rockmore tied it back up in the 73rd minute on a rocket free kick from just outside the box. Goalkeeper Matthew Weigner got a hand on his drive to the top right corner, but Weigner could only deflect it under the crossbar into the roof of the net.
"Coming into the game we knew we needed to figure out where we were going to score goals, and it was great to get two tonight, but we can't give up two," said head coach Brendan Nash. "We have to learn to do the little things better in order to be successful."
Bucknell outshot FDU 20-11 and led 7-6 in corner kicks. Clarke Fox made four saves for the Bison, while Weigner had five. Rockmore, a center back, and reserve wing Crispin Muessle had a team-high four shots apiece for the Bison, who played without injured leading scorer Jesse Klug.
After playing its last three games on the road, Bucknell returns home to face Holy Cross on Saturday at 2 p.m.
