EASTON, Pa. - Alexis Gannon and Kendall Ham each recorded a goal to help the Bucknell women's soccer team to a 2-2 tie at Lafayette on Wednesday night at Oaks Stadium. The Bison move to 5-5-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the Patriot League.
In just the third league game for both squads, the teams endured a back and forth contest, each picking up a point in the Patriot League standings.
Lafayette got on the board just 1:47 into the contest. Kaelin King found the back of the net off a cross from Samantha Potoczak for the 1-0 lead.
Bucknell answered with a goal of its own in the 18th minute on the team's first shot attempt of the game. After cutting off a Lafayette throw-in, Ham pushed the ball up the field, finding Gannon, who was able to chip the ball past the goalie for the score.
Following a flurry of shots from the Leopards to open the second half, Bucknell took the lead in the 51st minute. Ham intercepted a pass, drove the ball up field, and took a shot from 20 yards out that sailed over the outstretched arms of Kelly O'Brien for her seventh goal of the season.
The Leopards connected on an equalizer in the 60th minute. Anna Wissler found a streaking King, who was able to slip the ball past the keeper to the left side for her second goal of the night.
In the first overtime period, the Leopards failed to capitalize on an opportunity in the 99th minute. King passed the ball to an open Monica Weiss, who held on to the ball for too long in the box and had the ball cleared away by the Bison defense.
Bucknell had its best opportunity at a golden goal in the 109th minute. Gannon connected with Ham on a touch pass into the box, but the shot was knocked down and cleared away.
“We had a great response after giving up an early goal,” says head coach Kelly Kuss. “The group played hard and battled for 110 minutes. It was a hard fought game, but we need to start sharper, with more focus and intensity.”
Lafayette held a 17-9 advantage in shot attempts while the Bison had a 9-5 edge in corner kicks.
Ham paced the team with three shot attempts, including two on frame. Ratner recorded a season-high nine saves in the game.
The Bison return to action on Sunday (Oct. 4) and will put their home-unbeaten streak on the line in a Patriot League semifinal rematch against Colgate. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
