LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Anna Wills has been named the Corvias Defensive Player of the Week by the Patriot League after leading the Bison to a 4-2 win over visiting Lehigh on Saturday. The junior scored the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute, helping the Bison improve to 1-0 in conference play.
The goal by Wills was one of three in the second half for the Bison, who rallied from a 2-1 deficit for the win. Her team-leading third goal of the season came on a penalty corner and was assisted by Emily Hitchings and Kayla Sullivan.
Wills also spearheaded a defensive effort that saw a dramatic turnaround after the break. After allowing two goals on six shots in the first half, the Bison didn't allow a shot and faced one penalty corner in the second half. The performance helped Wills earn her second career Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Bucknell has won two weekly awards from the Patriot League this season. Emily Hitchings was voted the Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals in the second half of a 2-1 win over California.
With the win over Lehigh, Bucknell ran its winning streak to seven in Patriot League regular season games, the longest active streak in the conference. The Bison's next game is a non-conference matchup at Lock Haven on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
