LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell's men's tennis team will compete at home for the second time this fall when it hosts three teams for the Bison invite on Friday and Saturday at the Bucknell Tennis Courts. Joining the Bison at the event will be Lafayette, Niagara and Saint Francis.
The Bison dominated the event last season, taking the top two spots in each of the top three flights. Max Kane went 3-0 to win Flight A, and Ben Gerber did the same to win Flight B. Bryan Adams won his first two matches in Flight C before defaulting to a teammate in the final. They also sent two doubles teams to the championship round, falling in the finals in Flight A and Flight B.
Kane will move to Flight 2 this season, while Gerber will compete in Flight 3. Competing in the top flight for Bucknell this year will be Nick Bybel, who will compete at home for the first time this season, and Daniel Wright. One of their top challengers will be Saint Francis's Alec Dylan Foo-Kune, a Second Team All-NEC and All-Rookie selection last year.
Three Bucknell players enter the weekend with a winning record this fall. Max McDonald is a perfect 4-0 after winning the season-opening Bucknell Tournament. Gerber is 3-1, while Kane is 2-1. Bybel is 1-2 but has played just one event in a loaded field at the Ivy Plus Tournament.
The Bison Invite is the final home event of the fall. A few Bison players will compete at the ITA Championships starting on Oct. 3 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, while the rest will be back in action on Oct. 9 at Princeton's Farnsworth Invite.
