LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell football senior DE Jimmy King (Millstone, N.J./Notre Dame) was named the 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. King totaled team highs in tackles (7), tackles for loss (3), sacks (2) and forced fumbles (1) in Bucknell's 19-14 non-league win at Cornell on Saturday. It is the first time King has been named Bison Athlete of the Week in his career.
King's strip-sack of Cornell's QB Robert Somborn clinched the victory for the Bison, who improved to 2-1 on the young season. The Big Red trailed 17-14 late in the fourth quarter and King's defensive play pushed Cornell back from the 25-yard line to the 1-yard line with just a few seconds remaining on the clock. An errant snap then went into the end zone, tacking a safety onto Bucknell's final score.
King posted new career highs for tackles, tackles for loss and sacks in the victory. His previous high for tackles in a game came last year vs. Cornell.
A two-year starter on the defensive line, King is fourth on the Bison with 14 tackles this season. His 5.5 tackle for loss rank second on the squad, while he paces the team with three sacks. King is tied for second in the Patriot League in sacks.
King is now up to 50 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in his Bucknell career, which spans 27 games.
The Bison are idle this weekend and will return to action Oct. 3 at VMI. Bucknell has defeated the Keydets each of the last two years.
