WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Bucknell head women's golf coach Kevin Jamieson was optimistic about the improvement of his team entering the 2015-16 season, and after the conclusion of the first fall tournament, he may be correct in his assessment. The Bison wrapped up play at the William & Mary Invitational on the Kingsmill Resort's Plantation Course with a team score of 318, and the team's 54-hole total of 936 is eighth-best in program history.
Bucknell's best team score in 2014-15 was a 320, and the Bison bettered that in all three rounds to start this season, shooting 303-315-318 en route to a 12th-place finish. It was the team's best 54-hole score since posting a 930 in its 2014 Patriot League title-winning showing at Saucon Valley Country Club.
Sophomore Lindsay Dodovich spearheaded Bucknell's improved play this week. She was tied for the first-round lead after firing a career-best, 2-under-par 70. After a second-round 80, Dodovich closed with a 76 to put her in a tie for 18th place. It was her first career top-20 finish.
Junior Emily Larson followed with a 79, her third straight round in the 70s. Senior Jen Lee closed with an 81, freshman Katie Childers shot 82 on the heels of her consecutive 77s, and freshman Eunbbie Kim finished up with an 86.
UNC Wilmington won the team title with an 879 total, comprised of three straight 293s. Host William & Mary was runner-up at 891, followed by Eastern Kentucky (894) and High Point (905) in a mostly Southern field.
Tan Cheeranont of High Point capped off a wire-to-wire individual victory by closing with an even-par 72. She finished 3-under for the tournament and held off William & Mary's Alessandra Liu by one stroke.
Bucknell will have home-course advantage next weekend when it hosts the annual Bucknell Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
