LEWISBURG, Pa. – Charlie Niehaus posted 11 saves, including a pair on penalty shots, and the Bucknell men's water polo team posted a 10-1 victory over Fordham Saturday afternoon on the second day of the Bison Invitational. It was the third straight win this weekend for the Bison, who avenged last year's overtime loss to the Rams.
Niehaus was strong the entire game in goal as Fordham did not net its goal until 6:37 remained in the third period. It marked the fewest goals allowed by the Bison since last November when they beat Monmouth 16-1 at the Southern Championships.
On the offensive side of the pool, Stefan Aleksic, Marko Djordjevic, Jeff Hagen and Ratimir Babic had two goals apiece for Bucknell (5-2). Aleksic added a pair of assists.
It was a slow start for both teams as it was a scoreless contest following the first quarter. Djordjevic then scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart early in the second stanza. Borna Bolanca and Ratimir Babic followed with goals before the Rams could get on the scoreboard.
Bucknell will wrap up the Bison Invitational Sunday with games against Toronto (8 a.m.) and Washington & Jefferson (1 p.m.). The Bison earlier in the weekend defeated No. 13 Brown 8-7 and Penn State Behrend 14-3.
