LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's soccer team has allowed just one goal through its first two games of the 2015 season. The defensive effort has not gone unnoticed, with the announcement of junior goalkeeper Jessica Ratner being named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week.
The Langhorne, Pa., native recorded her first shutout of the season in the team's 1-0 season-opening victory over Towson last Friday. Ratner posted three saves in the victory, including a terrific save in the 28th minute of the match, where she had to go full extension to knock the ball away off the top of the crossbar.
Ratner followed up her performance on Sunday with a six-save effort in a 1-1 tie at UMBC. The goalkeeper held the Retrievers scoreless for the final 52 minutes of the contest, including a key save in the 93rd minute to prevent the go-ahead goal.
Ratner has appeared in 15 games in goal for the Bison in her career, logging over 900 minutes of action. She is the first Bison to earn Patriot League goalkeeper honors since teammate Jessie Ashworth in 2013.
Bucknell stands at 1-0-1 overall this season, and returns to action on Aug. 28 to begin a two-game California road trip at Loyola Marymount. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Eastern.
