LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Emma Levendoski became Bucknell's first NCAA Division I Swimming Championships participant earlier this year, and she turned in her historic season in the pool while also excelling in the classroom. Levendoski, an animal behavior major, earned a 3.75 grade-point average in the 2015 spring semester, and on Wednesday she earned a spot on the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team.
Ashley Henderson and Rachel Perry from the Bison women's swimming and diving team, and Louis Behnen from the men's squad, earned honorable mention recognition from the CSCAA.
To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.
A three-time First Team All-Patriot League selection and a six-time conference champion, Levendoski competed in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events at the NCAA Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, back in March. She is the Bucknell and Patriot League record-holder in both events.
Behnen and Levendoski were two of four Bison swimmers to compete in the Mare Nostrum Series in Barcelona, Spain last month. Behnen smashed the Bucknell record in the 200-yard freestyle at the ECAC Championships this season, and at the Patriot League Championships he was runner-up in the 1,650 free and third in the 500 free. He is an economics and political science major.
Henderson posted three top-three individual finishes and helped the 200 medley relay break a school record during a terrific weekend at the Patriot League Championships this winter. A sociology major, Henderson was runner-up in the 200 backstroke and third in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.
Perry, an accounting and financial management major who turned in a stellar 3.91 GPA last semester, won the Patriot League bronze medal in the 100 back.
In addition to these individual honors, the Bucknell women's swimming and diving team was designated as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team. The Bison squad combined for an outstanding 3.44 team GPA last semester and placed 24 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
