LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior Joe Ogren (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) earned his third individual award this week on Thursday. The 2014 Patriot League Tournament MVP earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District 2 Baseball Team on Thursday. He will now move onto the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
Ogren, who was named Second Team All-Patriot League and to the Academic All-Patriot League Team earlier this week, is the first Bucknell baseball player to be named Academic All-District since Doug Shribman and Drew Constable in 2011. To be eligible for a nomination, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.30 grade-point average and be a starter or key reserve on his team.
Ogren is a two-time member of both the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and Bucknell Dean's List. He is majoring in chemical engineering.
A First Team All-Patriot League selection in 2014, Ogren is a three-year starter for the Bison, holding down the second base position each of the last two years. He hit .357 with five home runs, 28 RBIs and 39 runs scored this season and ranks in the top five in the Patriot League in eight offensive categories.
Ogren is a career .313 hitter who has started 138 games, hit seven home runs and driven in 75 runs.
Ogren is the fifth Bucknell student-athlete to be named Academic All-District this season, following Matt DelMauro (football), Audrey Dotson (women's basketball), Jesse Klug (Men's Soccer) and Derek Maurer (football).
Ogren helped lead Bucknell to a 24-22 record this year. The Bison were one of only two Patriot League teams to be above .500, along with regular-season champion Navy.
