LEWISBURG, Pa. – After captaining the Bucknell men's soccer team to a Patriot League championship this season, senior defender Brian Ward earned the John F. Zeller Award at the 54th Annual Department of Athletics and Recreation Senior Recognition Dinner on Tuesday evening. The Zeller Award is presented for “outstanding contributions to Bison Athletics, while exemplifying the best of Bucknell in the manner that John Zeller did in his 68 years of service to the University.”
Ward started all 81 games for the Bison over the last four years, playing various positions along the defensive back four as well as defensive center midfield. He was part of 30 shutouts during his career on a team known for its defensive prowess.
Ward led the Bison in minutes played in 2014, playing in 96.5 percent of the team's minutes, and he played a key leadership role in Bucknell's terrific late-season run. The Bison went unbeaten in their last four regular-season games to solidify their Patriot League Tournament position, and then in a span of six days the team ousted Lehigh, Navy and Boston University to claim its fourth championship in the last nine years.
Ward is a Dean's List student majoring in civil engineering, and he will be working in Denver, Colorado after graduating in a few weeks.
