Sam Grinberg Named Patriot League Men's Lax Scholar-Athlete of the Year

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Senior goalie Sam Grinberg has helped carry the Bison men's lacrosse team into the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament, and on Wednesday he was named the 2015 Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year. An economics and philosophy double-major with a 3.81 cumulative grade-point average, Grinberg was also named to the 12-man Academic All-Patriot League Team.
Grinberg is in his second year as Bucknell's starting netminder. He is a five-time Patriot League Goalie of the Week, including twice this season. He is coming off a terrific 13-save performance in Tuesday night's Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal win over Lehigh that upped his season record to 8-4. He has recorded double-digit saves in nine of his 14 starts, with a high of 14 against Lehigh in Bucknell's overtime win there in March.
Grinberg made key saves in overtime to keep the Bison alive in victories over Lehigh and Brown. He logged 13 saves with only five goals allowed in a win over Bryant, and he had 10 saves in an 8-7 win over regular-season champion Navy.
Grinberg's 8.99 career goals-against average ranks fifth on Bucknell's all-time chart. He has a 9.29 GAA and is averaging 9.0 saves per game this season.
Off the field, Grinberg has earned a spot on the Bucknell Dean's List (3.50 GPA or above) in every semester so far. He was indicted into the Omicron Delta Epsilon International Honor Society for Economics, and he has interned with the Movado Group Inc. in New Jersey. He is a men's lacrosse representative on the Bucknell Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and he also serves as the treasurer of the Bucknell Fly Fishing Club.
Grinberg is now a two-time member of the Patriot League All-Academic Team for men's lacrosse, He is Bucknell's sixth PL Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and the first since fellow goalie Justin Sussman won the award in 2003.
Bucknell is the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will be facing No. 2 Colgate in a semifinal game on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in Annapolis, Maryland. The game will air live on CBS Sports Network.
