LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's track and field team continued its success at the Bucknell Team Challenge on Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium, winning the event for the seventh straight year.
The Bison took the crown with 226 points, easily topping Duquesne, which finished with 125 points. Binghamton was third with 84, and, and Lock Haven was fourth with 74.
“Both the women and the men's teams had a good number of nice performances,” said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. “Some people seem to be set up nicely for leagues in two weeks, while a few others need some fine tuning. Our 35-person lineup is coming very close to being set.”
Senior Christian Lupica has a long list of accomplishments from his time at Bucknell, including school records and Patriot League titles. The one thing he didn't have entering Saturday's event was a facility record. That changed with his last event on his home track, as he set a record in the 110-meter hurdles, taking first in 13.87 seconds. The previous record was 13.90, set by Army's Domonick Sylve in 2010.
The Bison added two more individual titles as Andrew Garcia-Garrison and Laddie Trees won their respective events in the last home meet of their careers. Garcia-Garrison topped 17 runners with a time of 1:52.82 in the 800-meter run, while Trees finished first among 12 throwers in the javelin with a throw of 224-8. John Westwood was the runner-up to Garcia-Garrison, while Pat Mulrooney was second in the javelin. Mulrooney's throw of 195-11 qualified him for the IC4A Championships.
Jack Fellows posted a pair of runner-up finishes, taking second in the discus and the hammer throw. Joseph Breen was second in the shot put and finished one spot behind Fellows in the discus.
Grant Reynolds was also the runner-up in two events, taking second in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. Other runners-up for the Bison on the day included Kevin Tapper (400m), Peter Murray (3,000m), John Kirna (steeplechase), Adam Karl (high jump) and Nicholas Lombardo (triple jump).
Bucknell added wins in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
The Bison will send some athletes to the Penn Relays, to be held on April 23-25, and others to the Bloomsburg Invitational April 25.
