LEWISBURG, Pa. – Just eight days after squaring off against Penn State, the Bucknell baseball team will make a return trip to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park to face the Nittany Lions on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. Penn State claimed last Tuesday's meeting by a 4-2 score.
Wednesday's game will have live statistics and live audio available via GoPSUSports.com.
Bucknell (18-16, 4-8 Patriot League) played well this past weekend in its return home from a nine-game road trip. The Bison took three of four games from Army West Point, outscoring the Black Knights 34-14 in the process.
Patriot League Player of the Week Jon Mayer paced the Bucknell offense against Army, hitting .588 with 12 RBIs and three runs scored. The catcher was behind the plate for 35 of the 36 innings in the series.
The Bison pitchers were strong over the weekend, recording a solid 2.75 ERA. Andrew Andreychik was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week after pitching a complete-game two-hitter in a 14-1 victory on Sunday. Fellow starter Bryson Hough pitched 10.0 innings of one-run ball and Xavier Hammond allowed just two runs in 7.2 innings on the way to his fourth win of the year.
Penn State, which plays a non-conference game Tuesday at West Virginia, is 10-20 on the year, but 8-4 at home. The Nittany Lions are 2-2 in their last four games.
Bucknell is hitting .269 as a team and owns a 3.49 ERA. Penn State is hitting .263 and has a 4.97 ERA.
The Bison are 34-116 all-time against Penn State, but earned their first victory over the Nittany Lions since 1998 last March. The squads met in a four-game series with doubleheaders played at each home field. Bucknell won game three of the series at Depew Field behind a four-hit shutout by Andreychik.
Following Wednesday's game, Bucknell will turn its attention back to Patriot League play as it opens a seven-game homestand with a four-game weekend series vs. Lafayette. Doubleheaders both days will begin at noon at Depew Field. The Bison seniors will be recognized prior to Sunday's twinbill during Senior Day ceremonies. All four games will air on WVBU 90.5 and BucknellBison.com.
