LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Nick Bybel has been unbeatable as of late, as evident by his 18-match winning streak and a 19-1 record this spring. The latest of those victories came against Patriot League foes Lehigh and Loyola (Md.) last week, and earned him Corvias Patriot League Male Tennis Player of the Week honors.
Bybel has only gone three sets once during his unbeaten streak, which resulted in a win over Army West Point's Sam Lampman. He will put that streak on the line as the Bison wrap up the regular season with a match at Bloomsburg on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Bucknell is coming off two big conference wins, topping Lehigh 4-3 and Loyola (Md.) 5-2. Freshman Daniel Wright clinched the team victory in both matches with wins at No. 2 singles.
The Bison were also 2-0 at No. 6 singles last week, receiving wins from two different players. Ben Gerber earned a 6-4, 6-0 decision against the Mountain Hawks, while William Szamosszegi stepped in and posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory against the Greyhounds.
Bloomsburg is 4-7 on the season. The Huskies are coming off back-to-back wins over Philadelphia and Shepherd. Bucknell won the most recent meeting with the Division II opponent with a shutout in 2013.
The Bison will host the Patriot League Tournament, scheduled for Thursday-Sunday at the Bucknell Tennis Courts. Seeding for the event will be released on Tuesday.
