LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team has proven it can be competitive with any team in the Patriot League with its recent results, and the Bison will get a chance to show its continued improvement with a match at Loyola (Md.) on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Bison will also play a non-conference match at Coppin State on Sunday at noon.
With wins in seven of its past 10 matches, Bucknell is 11-8 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League. The Bison are coming off a big 4-3 win over Lehigh, which was picked to finish third in the conference's preseason poll.
Nick Bybel, Daniel Wright and Ben Gerber all had singles wins over Lehigh. Wright's three-set victory at No. 2 clinched the match for the Bison.
Bybel continues to put together one of the most impressive seasons in program history. He is 34-3 on the year, 18-1 during the spring, and has won 17 straight matches. The 34 wins are easily the most in a single season in team history.
Wright has shown he has a bright future with the Bison. The freshman is 14-4 during the spring and has worked his way up to No. 2 in the lineup. His 19 wins during the fall and spring seasons combined rank 12th on the team's single-season list. He needs just three more to crack the top 10.
Loyola (Md.) is 9-7 overall and 2-4 in the Patriot League. The Greyhounds are coming off a 7-0 win over Rider in a non-conference match.
Bucknell is the final match on Coppin State's regular season schedule. The Eagles are 1-11 with losses in their past six matches.
