LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's basketball team's season came to a close on Friday with a 60-49 loss to Navy in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament. The Bison wrapped up the 2014-1 5 campaign with an overall record of 18-12, totaling the team's most wins in eight years.
Sarita Condie scored 20 points, a high for any Navy player this season, including a 4-of-8 clip from 3-point range to lead the Mids to the win and a spot in the conference semifinals at top-seeded American on Monday. Condie was joined in double figures by Hannah Fenske and Patriot League All-Rookie selection Taylor Dunham with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
“I thought we were able to defend their penetration in the first two games, but it was the exact opposite tonight,” said Bucknell head coach Aaron Roussell, referring to his team's two wins over the Mids during the regular season. “We just couldn't stay in front of them.”
Senior Audrey Dotson put the finishing touches on an outstanding career at Bucknell, which included two All-Patriot League nods. She scored 13 points to give her 1,285 for her career, good enough for 11th in school history. She also added two blocks and ranks third in the team's all-time list with 117. Another senior, Micki Impellizeri, finished with two blocks and moved into 10th all-time with 81 for her career. The pair was joined by Tara Wilk and Katherine Harris in a senior class suiting up for the Bison for the final time.
Bucknell led 22-17 late in the first half, but was doomed by an 11-0 run Navy run over the final 2:35 that gave the Mids a 28-22 lead at the break. The Mids tacked on a 3-pointer by Condie 2:50 into the second half to go up nine and didn't trail the rest of the way.
Navy's win was sparked by 23 points off of turnovers. The Mids had nine steals, led by Condie and Justice Swett with three apiece.
Sophomore Claire DeBoer, a Second Team All-Patriot League honoree, paced the Bison with 15 points. Patriot League Rookie of the Year selection Jacquie Klotz led all players with 12 rebounds and scored eight points. Freshman Megan McGurk dished out a game-high four assists.
